Artistic Endeavors (including fashion)

I studied Art History. I loved modern art. The few pieces I created post elementary school were greatly influenced by Kazimir Malevich. I also loved the attitude of Marcel Duchamp in how it helped define what is art. And I love the humor in "Ceci ne pas une pipe". In elementary school, I did win rewards for my drawings of cats, but I never learned how to move forward with that because all I knew was that I wanted to draw a cat and everyone liked it. Now, if I do art, it tends to be finger painting. I will also do crayons, but finger painting is more fun and I feel more connected with my art. Obviously, I don't intend to become a world famous artist, but I do find it a great way to express my complex feelings.

Medieval Style Dresses cut out of old notes and my sketches
from Art History class copying pieces that spoke to me.
Fashion is something I have come to ignore because it has been stereotyped as evil, degrading of women, setting up an ideal that sends people to the ER for anorexia. But honestly, I love fashion. I remember grabbing the newspaper after the Grammy's or Oscar's and admiring all the red carpet gowns and deciding which ones were aesthetic (to me) and what could be done to make them better. In middle school when I didn't want to pay attention, I was drawing dresses predominately in the medieval style. Clearly it means a lot to me. And whenever I go shopping, I always wish I had my own seamstress to make clothes that are actually made to fit my body type. In my reflection of my interests, I feel like this was an area that I closed down because it was looked down on. I hope to rediscover it.
