Words, from my previous experiences

Welcome to my first Music Monday Post!

This isn't too music, music related because it is going to be about words. But words get connected to music when the words get sung. I was reflecting while walking home about the first 'singing' performance I did in class. I felt that it was a base-level performance (meaning I probably would have sung to the same quality before being in the class), but I felt it was a success because I mounted the biggest obstacle I have with performing. Facing and performing to my audience. I could look my classmates in the eyes and sing to them. This is a break-through for me; I'm excited now to apply the techniques we have been learning.

Anyhow, back to the topic of the post, I was thinking about how I've never did a evaluated singing performance before. And, as usual when I tell myself I've never done something, I realized that was a lie. I sang a duet my freshman year in high school for the ITS competition and got an Excellent for it. We sang How the Other Half Lives and we managed to get an Excellent. I never realized how awesome that is until that moment.

Now, back to words, I sang the part of Miss Dorothy.  Her first lines are the following: "This is living! This is what I call living! I've hungered for this day since *#@$ knows when! Year after year with a secret yen." Haha, I hear imaginary screeching breaks. "That isn't a bad word, Miss Dorothy" I got strange looks from my musical theatre teacher when I asked if I could change the lyric for religious reasons.When my teacher asked me what religion, I looked at her funny. "Christian, it's in the bible: 'But I say unto you, Swear not at all; neither by heaven; for it is Gd's throne:' (St Matthew 5:34)" I changed the lyric to say "Who knows when" and I change the lyric when I sing along with "Let it Go" to "Even though I tried".

This isn't the smoothest blog post... oh well. Overall arc-ing theme of helping me find myself, I believe in sticking to morals. It may be a small thing, but I can better connect with the music when I change the lyric. Words are an important part of singing, thus the words effect my music. My commitment to sticking to my standards (like commandments in the bible; I'm not perfect, but I try to keep the ones I can) helps me be more me and thus a better artist/singer.

Artistic Endeavors at School

Hypothetically, if I had an audience that waited for my posts and ate every word that I wrote, they would probably be wondering what I meant when I talked about "developing skills in various classes" (and other extra things like a job) and if that had anything to do with what I blog about. I am happy to tell you that they do! And I have learned that different things in my asbestos post- while from sources on the internet- are incorrect. I will have to fix that eventually.

I once was told that when learning these hobby arts, it is important to consult someone with skill to learn about it. So in order to apply that, I am taking classes on singing and sewing! Like I said before, I have no intention of becoming a famous singer, but Kleon said it was good to stick with the things we love. I love to sing, and singing is so much better with the techniques I have been taught. I really feel so much better after singing with more proper technique. I'm excited to see where this will take me. Sewing, of course, is to help me learn more about clothes so I can pursue my fashion interest. We shall see if this amounts to anything, but at least it will allow me to eventually make my own clothes. I hope it does because the fashions I see really need some help (a mon avis).

I think I will try to balance my interests in my posts. Once a week I can blog about music and another day of the week I can blog about fashion! Let's try music Mondays and fashion Fridays! We'll see if I can manage it...  : D

Something had happened and I was laughing really hard when the teacher started the music I was in the front of the classroom to sing. I told myself to pull myself together and be like Benedict Cumberbatch. True story. I wasn't perfect, but I got back in the mode a lot quicker than I normally would have. The randomest people in your life can become your inspiration in times when you need it. Hang around good people and good media for best results.

McKay Crockett was a boy who dreamed of being in a boy band and has been working on making that dream come true. It started with the band Frequency, which was a boy band. Then in college he spent the full four years as a valuable member in Vocal Point, including performing on NBC's The Sing Off during his senior year. He was also working on three other projects that would use his media music studies degree. 

For the summer after his graduation, he launched his a capella summer camp ReMix Vocal Academy. He also had opened his own business Studio. He also worked on getting current and past Vocal Point members into a group called ReMix hoping to rise on the momentum of the Sing Off, but it didn't work out. ReMix did not last long as a singing group, but that didn't stop McKay. 

McKay advanced to the director of Vocal Point from assistant director after graduating. After ReMix kept changing people and eventually died off, McKay searched to find a new group. Eventually he formed the band called Hudson Lights. He also manages Beyond 5 (talk about living the boy band dream).
