I have no plans on becoming a professional singer, but a person I really admire is McKay Crockett. I first became acquainted with him at the a capella club at my college. Vocal Point, his group, performed for us and advertised for the NBC's The Sing Off because they were on it. Feeling the school spirit and the desire to support, I began watching from online (too cheap to have a TV). I noticed that McKay's diction indicated that he was the instigator for Vocal Point's presence on the Sing Off.
After six months or so of following Vocal Point on the Sing Off and going to their concerts in town and seeing and talking with them around campus, a new exciting source entered my ability to follow Vocal Point. That source was a blog by sisters who held the pseudonyms of Troi and Crusher- Totally Missing the Point: Vocal Point. They had become excited about Vocal Point because of their presence on The Sing Off and was sad to see it end and so they decided to not let it end by watching all of Vocal Points videos and blogging about them.
It was through their insights and commentary that many fans came to know and love the members of Vocal Point even more. It also helped that the members of vocal point commented a lot and Troi and Crusher even wrote to some members for their response in the comments. TMtP became a funny online family where two sisters got several unkowns gathered around Vocal Point. I think I got a little distracted in all of this, but the jist of all of this is that I got rather familiar with the personalities of the members of Vocal Point because of this blog, McKay Crockett included.
So characteristic of my other role models, McKay is someone who knows what he wants and continues to work for it. Failures are slingshots to greater projects that change the world. I see that coming for McKay. I admire his ability to make his dreams come true. Honestly, I dream to many dreams at this point to be able to have the same focus, but when I do find my focus I hope to learn his tricks.
On top of that, I know from personal experience that he is a very kind person. I also admire their/his commitment to stick to their standards while on national television. This is something I hope to be able to do in all my endeavors because if you don't stand up for your standards, your art loses it form and becomes average or forgettable. We've seen this happen to many famous people. Standards can come in any shape or form, but it is that consistency and boldness that makes whatever you do stand tall (in the odd metaphorical way).
