I was randomly thinking about this today; so I decided to write about it. It isn't too often, but sometimes I get asked "why do I like/love such-and-such?" This is a hard question as I don't take in the world in words. I take in many details and it becomes an impression; this is a major source of the "my brain is smarter than me". I am trying to learn how to make those impressions into words by identifying what it is that my brain picked up and describing them. I am going to try this for why I admire McKay Crockett.
For starters, the main reasons I talked about before- ambition and passion (meaning the love for what he does) are very apparent in all of his work. One doesn't start a summer camp or start his music groups or dramatically change the direction of a group he was a part of without having passion and ambition. The energy of his performances also shows that as well. Performing and bringing happiness to people by singing is clearly something that makes him happy and drives him. What are the signs- smiling, performance increases when the audience responds, everything he does seems to be around his love of singing. I don't know, it is the edge that makes performances better.
The next part I also talked about, his kindness and integrity. Yes, they go together. I have spoken of personal interactions with him and I think that is commonly how people determine kindness- how people treat others, especially people not in friend and family space. He was polite and kind even though the conversation was inconveniently timed and it felt very awkward on my side. Part of integrity involves greatly how one treats others; the other part I already discussed- commitment to Gd and living that way regardless of what other people do. I think the Sing-Off was a good indicator of that.
The next part is harder to put into words- focus and morality... the ability to focus on the right things. By this I mean the songs that McKay chooses to solo in- I mean he's got to have a choice since he has to live with the songs for a while to be able to have them at performance quality. Songs such as "Higher and Higher", Just the Way You Are", and "Love Never Fails" are all uplifting and inspiring songs. Clearly he wants to battle insecurities and to build people up by teaching them about a higher level of love than is often sung in popular music.
I think that is enough for tonight. This is not the easiest thing for me, but the practice helps. I am not planning on being back too much to blogging because of my special project.
